Major global cities have set ambitious decarbonization targets, but these efforts may not be enough to comply with the Paris Agreement. With over 30% of cities’ emissions coming from transport, urban mobility will play a critical role in lowering CO2 emissions.

The Oliver Wyman Forum developed a model-based solution to help cities achieve the 1.5oC global warming target by 2030 with paths unique to each city’s mobility network.

As a part of Climate Week NYC, this panel session will present the research, identify available solutions, and share best practices across cities. Representatives from the private and public sectors, as well as academia, will enrich the discussion by sharing their perspective on the matter.

The Urban Mobility Readiness Index

The Oliver Wyman Forum, in partnership with the University of California, Berkeley, present the Urban Mobility Readiness Index, an annual ranking of 60 major cities worldwide on their preparedness for mobility’s next chapter.

The cities that tackle future mobility challenges will be the most sustainable and attractive for people and businesses. This year’s edition of the index places an emphasis on sustainability and public transit as the backbone of a resilient economy.

The leading cities in our index were either well prepared for or seized the disruption COVID brought to make concrete improvements to their mobility ecosystems. Explore the index here.

How Urban Mobility Will Change by 2030

A wave of shared and digital services is transforming mobility with options that go beyond traditional public transport and privately owned cars. Applications have accelerated the deployment of new modes and services, reshaping urban and suburban travel. These new services are expected to grow over the next decade about twice as fast as traditional mobility, with potential benefits for climate, pollution, and the livability of cities.

The Oliver Wyman Forum and the University of California, Berkeley, analyzed the growth potential of 13 services, from ride-hailing to EV charging services, across North America, Europe, and Asia through 2030.

Evolution Of Airports – Travel Trends In The Next 30 Years

For airports to be more sustainable and accommodate demand, the aviation industry needs concerted investments in everything from green tech to biometrics.

A recent report by the Oliver Wyman Forum, prepared in collaboration with ACI World and Saudi Arabia’s Sustainable Tourism Global Center, helps plot a route forward. Based on interviews with nearly 20 chief executives of global airports, the report identifies five megatrends that will shape the airports of the future.

The Global Mobility Executive Forum

What happens when you gather 600 mobility leaders from the public and private sector across 36 countries to discuss solutions for developing sustainable urban transportation? They agree on one indispensable ingredient: collaboration. There can be no sustainable and resilient mobility business models unless the public and private sectors build them together, participants at the Oliver Wyman Forum’s Global Mobility Executive Forum agreed.
